Tamara Design Co is a pattern design and textiles studio owned by Tamara Schneider. Inspired by nature, Tamara's intricate designs are drawn by hand and digitally coloured and printed with environmentally friendly pigment using Australian manufacturers.
The spark for Tamara’s obsession began while she was studying fashion design back in the late 1990s. Here she was introduced to the wallpaper designs of William Morris and Florence Broadhurst and quickly became enamoured by the intricacy and incredible skill that was evident in their works. Whilst being inspired by historic textile pattern design, Tamara has her own unique personal style.
The brief was to design a new brand identity for Tamara Design Co that complemented her exquisite hand-drawn textile designs. We decided on a subtle type-based logo, allowing her detailed printed pieces to stand at the forefront. The overall look and feel needed to be sophisticated and professional, honouring the quality and care taken in her work.
The customised lettering of the logo design pays homage to the Morris & Co logo, William Morris being a significant influence on Tamara's work.
Precise details and typographic quirks have been carefully crafted to sit harmoniously alongside her superb pieces.
The repetition of wavy horizontal strokes across the letters hint at the decorative aspect of her work and the idea of the repeat motif inherent in pattern design.
The design has been applied across business cards, embroidery, swing tags and fabric swatch books. The brand colours (copper foil, white ink and grey card stock) are understated and elegant, allowing Tamara's work to shine.
