Tristan and Joyce are the owners of Natural Science Wine & Liquor — Melbourne's first all-Australian bottle shop and bar.
The business name, Natural Science, references the natural process of fermentation and Joyce's background in chemical engineering (plus it's also the title of Tristan's favourite song)!
The symbols represent the N and S of the business name. The same image is rotated 90° — a nod to the twisting of a bottle cap.
The letters are extended and abstracted creating satisfying loops like a funnel, hinting at the process of fermentation from grape to wine.
The monogram plays with the idea of positive and negative and the way your eyes can go between both.
The intersecting shapes through the middle of the designs are reminiscent of levels of liquid, like filling up a wine glass.
The clients wanted a friendly and simple brand with a level of familiarity and a connection to the modernist designs they love.
The signage is hand-painted and the brand colours are warm and welcoming, balancing out the sciencey nature of the name and logo.
